Goldsprint FAQs

Little history:
Wikipedia: A Goldsprint is a bicycle rollers racing and social event. Riders on stationary bikes compete against each other in front of spectators. While roller racing has a history going back to the beginning of cycling, Goldsprints are fairly new and closely related to bicycle messenger culture. It began in Zurich, Switzerland as part of the 1999 Cycle Messenger World Championships, at which point the name and the event were founded by Adrien Weber, a passionate cyclist and owner of the TurbinenBräu brewery in Zurich, Turbinenbräu. The event was named after their beer brand "Gold-Sprint."

Rules:
Tournament style, 500 meter sprints with men's and women's brackets.  In the final heat, best 2 out of 3, will determine Mr. & Ms. Sandpoint Goldsprint for the evening. The top 2 men and women from each evening earn an automatic entry in the Championships on March 13th.  Not up for a tournament?  Single grudge matches will be done after the tournament, so call out your big-headed buddy or friendemie to settle the score.

Who's racing and what are they bringing?
Goldsprints are comprised of a small framed bike with an extra long seatpost, so they can accommodate almost any rider.  In addition, the rear wheel is on a roller and the front of the bike is in a forkstand.  What all this means is that ANYONE can do Goldsprints.  Everything is provided for you and NO you cannot bring your own bike, wheels, pedals, etc.  What you can bring is a good pair of shoes for cages/platform pedals, legs, lungs and a good attitude!

What if I don't wanna race?
Cool.  Goldsprints are an amazing spectator sport. It is one of the only biking events where you can watch the whole race without moving...hell without even moving your head.  Once you watch a couple though, be warned, you'll wanna join the fun.

What could I win?
Besides the honor of being crowned Mr. or Ms. Sandpoint Goldsprint and whopping up on your buddies?  How about each week' s winners get a growler from Laughing Dog Brewing...sweet!  Also, there will be a nightly prize for the most creative/best dressed rider.
